KRIMI! THE MAGAZINE UPDATES
Hi there. Short updates on KRIMI!
1) KRIMI! THE MAGAZINE (September 2025)
a) RIALTO LONDON, who produced only one Edgar Wallace Krimi, but announced three more movies. We will take a look at the history and the legacy of this short-lived enterprise by Horst Wendlandt and Preben Philipsen. Includes an exclusive interview with ALLAN SCOTT (Don't Look Now) on his work for Rialto London.

b) Genesis of PHANTOM VON SOHO, archival material on the development between Artur Brauner, Bryan Edgar Wallace and Ladislas Fodor. Includes the treatment "Murder by Proxy" by Bryan Edgar Wallace.

c) The iconography of the serial killer and how it found its way from the sensationalist true-crime pulps to the silent serials to the krimis and finally to the gialli. Includes a true find about how Artur Brauner already defined the concept in 1962 and even invented the rape-and-revenge genre.
d) The Phantom-Bird complex. How are these two movies entangled? Comparing "The Screaming Mimi" (book 1949 and movie 1958) and "The Phantom of Soho"(1964) and The Man with Glass Eye (1969) The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1969) leads to interesting discoveries. Includes a look into the archived documents by CCC on both CCC Krimis and the correspondence with the Argentos.

e) The 1980s neo(n)-Krimis of Hans-Christoph Blumenberg. Virtually unknown outside of Germany, critic-turned-director Blumenberg created a series of exquisite Krimi homages and created a new generation of Krimi stars. In depth research on his movies 1000 Augen (1984), Der Sommer des Samurai (1986) and Der Madonna-Mann (1987). Will hopefully contain an in-depth and personal interview with the director.

f) Ladislas Fodor. A biography of the man behind many Wallace and Mabuse Krimis. The most complete biography on the man who wrote an astonishing amount of Krimis and was highly influential behind the scenes. Will hopefully contain original material from his heritage.

g) The Mystery of Derrick in Italy. When Rialto stopped their Edgar Wallace franchise, most of the personell came back together for the long-running Krimi TV series Derrick. One would think that, given the success of the original Edgar Wallace Krimis (there called Gialli!), this was an easy success in Italy, but the Italians were skeptical. Finally, it became the most popular foreign series there. The story of Derrick arriving in Italy from an inside perspective.
